The role of Care Home Assistant Practitioner – or CHAP – is an important position within our care homes. It allows people with existing supervisory experience with an NVQ level 3 in Health and Social care within a care environment to take on a higher level of responsibility and reward.

Our CHAPs combine their caring activities with an extended range of clinical skills, such as administering medication and delivering minor wound care. CHAPs always have the support of the Registered Nurses in our homes.

The kind of person we’re looking for

You’ll have a minimum 12 months’ carer experience, ideally in a supervisory position, in an adult care home or possibly within the NHS – with at least an NVQ 2 in Health and Social care and working towards Level 3.

Very importantly you’ll be keen to develop your career as a carer. You’ll also be driven and not afraid of a challenge, with a good communication style that will allow you to lead other team members and work effectively alongside our nurses.

You'll find Chasedale Care Home in Blyth, Northumberland. Here we provide high-quality residential and nursing care for people with dementia, including in a unit for male residents only.

We are especially trained in caring for those living with dementia. Our unique approach is based on understanding dementia form the resident’s perspective, enabling us to deliver Special Resident Experiences and consistently good care everywhere.

We also offer care to people who are physically frail.

People can move from one unit to another as their dependency levels change. Some individuals stay with us long term, others for shorter periods.

We have gardens and other communal areas where those living here like to sit out on sunny days.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate must have a minimum SVQ/NVQ level 2 or Diploma in Health & Social Care and must achieve level 3 within 12 months after employment in the role.

A minimum of 12 months experience of working in a health & social care setting.

You must have the following attributes; Caring, Empathetic, Resident-focused
Literacy – good standard spelling, grammar and punctuation, Basic numeracy skills,
Problem- solving skills, Good verbal communication and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

The role requires a flexible approach as hours will vary to reflect the work patterns and needs of the business.
